2. OFS Training Server - Universal Mission Map
2.1. Eastern - Gori Tiflis - Battlezone
Region: Plain of Khashuri, South Osetia, Gori, to Tbilisi
If you have had enough of simple practice with more or less defenseless targets and want to test the matter a bit more seriously, just fly to the east. We have simulated a small battlefield there to be able to practice a bit realistic combat against ground targets.
Situation:
In our fictitious scenario, the Red Coalition has occupied South Osetia in the last two days and has surprisingly established itself in Tbilisi. Red troop movements are taking place in the Gori Valley to consolidate the situation and secure supply routes for the Red Coalition.
In the whole northern Gori Valley up to Khashuri there are red ground troops, mostly T-72 tanks, BMP's, in between there are air defense units of different types, from simple 23mm AAA over OSA and MANPAD's up to BUK.
Tbilisi itself is now already heavily protected with red air defenses, but only a few red ground troops are stationed in the city area and at the three airfields. Some Blue troops have been encircled on the southwestern city wheel and cut off from supplies. Artillery fire is on the city.
The Blue Coalition was too late in recognizing the situation, and only last night assembled makeshift troops from unoccupied western Georgia and moved them into the region. The bulk of the Blue troops are currently in the area around Khashuri to Gori, the majority in the southern section of the valley plain. A helipad has been hastily established near Khashuri at the entrance to the valley and supply units are ensuring that ammunition, refueling and repairs can be carried out.
Combined Arms Players have the ability to command nearly all of the blue troops and most of the red troops and influence the ground offensive for both sides. When players on both sides compete as Tactical Commanders, the potential of extended ground combat becomes apparent.
Together with a wide variety of flying units, the concept of "linked troops" in teamwork results in a variety of ways to master the situation and use weapons with precision.
Objectives:
- Recapture of the three airfields of Tbilisi
- Elimination of all Red units in the Gori Valley in the ideal case destruction of all Red units
- Optimal use of the available Blue ground forces in the Gori Valley and around Khashuri.
Possible courses of action:
- Neutralize SAM threats and then launch massive attacks on ground targets by aircraft, helicopters, and friendly ground forces
- Low-level air attacks on ground targets using the terrain
- Reconnaissance from a distance and use long-range weapons
- Block bridges and other narrow points
Difficulties:
- Unclear situation due to inadequate reconnaissance.
(Remedy by cheating is possible here, tactical commanders can see the generic units on the map)
- longer but realistic approach paths for planes from Senaki and Kutaisi. No spawn in the battlezone, loss of the aircraft means new approach from the starting airfield.
- Realistic approach paths from the western FARP's to the battle zone for helicopters. Limited spawn in the battle zone on frontal FARP's.
- Enemy air defense, by fighters and ground based air defenses of various types.
Use of gunships requires planning, but allows rapid rearming and repeated approaches to the enemy via FARP Dallas, Vetka and Shpora.
Frequencies:
FARP Dallas - Khashuri (ATC 129.1MHz AM, Beacon 41.1MHz FM),
FARP Vetka - Gori North (ATC 129.7MHz AM)
FARP Shpora - Kaspi (ATC 129.5MHz AM)
Recommended launch sites:
Senaki, Kutaisi for jets approx. 70-90 NM to target area
FARP's Perth + Berlin approx. 44 NM through the mountains to Dallas
FARP's Paris Torba Skala Dublin approx. 65 NM to Dallas
optional FARP Dallas
