Standardised Procedures in Detail
5. Shutdown
After landing you ground taxi to the parking position and shutdown all systems normally (called shutdown or "Cold and Dark"). Please note that we only use a clean shutdown in the Advanced Course. It is not required to pass the optional exam in this course. Nevertheless, here is an overview for all those who want to get used to it right from the beginning.
With the normal shutdown procedure, you could say that it is the start checklist but conducted backwards, almost. Whether you want to bring every switch back into the correct position for the next “Cold” start is a matter of personal taste. One pilot wants complete realism and so will carry out a full shutdown down to the last detail, another may be more pragmatic.
Below you will find a fairly pragmatic list of the necessary steps for this course. A complete checklist is provided in the Advanced Course.
